Sun Care and Protection

Slip! Slap! Swing! returns

With frequent hand washing and application of sanitiser gel ingrained in our daily routines, creating a sun protection habit should be an easy putt, which is great news for our skin health, especially for golfers and greenkeepers, who spend so much time outdoors.

New campaign format

To press this home, the Slip! Slap! Swing! sun protection campaign for golf returns on the 3rd May, with a brand new format. Launched in 2019 by the Melanoma Fund, the campaign’s messages have been promoted in over 500 golf clubs, raising awareness where and when it matters.

Golf clubs, tournament organisers and now golf tour operators can promote clear and effective messages with new materials including posters, leaflets, facts, and advice, plus a new health & wellness webinar, helping educate all in golf, both home and away.

With skin cancer rates at an all-time high, by simply avoiding sunburn, we can drastically reduce our risk, as well as prevent all types of sun damage.

GCMA partnership

To supercharge awareness, the Golf Club Managers Association has officially partnered with Slip! Slap! Swing! urging their members to get accredited, both on-line and via their many events around the UK throughout the year.

Say’s Craig Cotterill from the GCMA; “Sun protection is still very undervalued as a health routine in golf, and this must change.  The more clubs we can get signed up, the greater chance we have of preventing someone getting skin cancer”.

Sun protection travels

To raise awareness to those travelling to warmer climes, golf tour operators are now able to become accredited. Supported by Your Golf Travel as well as IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators) and Golf Tourism England, they will be promoting the initiative to their national members.

Says Peter Walton, Chief Executive of IAGTO; “Golfers here in the UK love to escape to the sun to play golf, and our 65 golf tour operator members are at the forefront of golf travel. This is a great campaign to further look after the well-being of all golf travellers and we fully support the campaign.”

Get your club involved

Getting sun protection in front of all in golf, is crucial to help create good habits, and tackle skin cancer, ultimately saving lives, and this campaign does just that. If your club isn’t Sun Protection Accredited, urge them to get involved. Because if not, why not?
