Midland Golf Union (MGU) – General terms of competition and regulations
Applicable to all MGU Championships and to be read in conjunction with the current England Golf Hard Card, the Championship Entry Policy and Championship specific Terms of Competition.
1. Rules of Golf
All Championships shall be played in accordance with:
a. The Rules of Golf
b. Local Rules contained within the hard card. Reference to England Golf replaced by MGU

2. Rules of Amateur Status
All players must be of Amateur status as defined by The Rules of Amateur Status.

4. Behaviour
All players, officials and supporters and expected to comply with the England Golf Code of Conduct and are requested to familiarize themselves with this policy in advance of attending a MGU championship.
5. Dress code
All players are requested to observe the dress code of the host club and requirements of the MGU at all times including prize presentations. During a round players are expected to wear recognised golf apparel, this is governed under code of conduct. Players will not be allowed to attend prize presentation or receive prizes unless correctly dressed.
6. Entries
The following points are relevant:
a. The Committee reserve the right to refuse any entry without assigning the reason for doing so
b. Entry can be made ‘online’ using a credit card or by post on the entry form obtainable from your Club Secretary, County Union Delegate, the MGU website (www.midlandgolfunion.co.uk) or from the Administrator.
c. Entries by post must include the completed entry form and correct entry fee. Cheques and money orders are to be made payable to the ‘Midland Golf Union Ltd’. Entries will not be accepted by telephone unless the entry form is fully completed.

7. Trophies
Where winners are to hold a trophy for a year they must return it in time for the following championship to the address ordered by the Administrator. The MGU are responsible for engraving.
8. Tie Resolution
Ties will be resolved using card countback unless a Championship 1st place is specifically to be decided by play-off. The countback will be over the last 18, 9, 6, 3, 1 hole(s) in that order. For handicapped events the countback will use a proportional fraction of the playing handicap unless stroke index is relevant where strokes will be allocated accordingly. In multi round events where the above does not provide resolution the process is repeated for the previous round.
9. Altering Terms of Competition
The Committee reserve the right to fix and/or alter starting times. In the event of play having to be abandoned / postponed the Committee reserve the right to amend the terms of competition in such exceptional circumstances.
10. Starting Times
The MGU request that players arrive at their 1st tee at least five minutes before their start time. Any player not ready to start their round at their start time will be subject to the provisions of Rule 5.3a.
11. Prizes
Where a Championship is not fully subscribed the MGU reserve the right to alter the prize fund accordingly.
