Steve Sansome wins the 2024 Midland Senior Spring Championship
Steve Sansome wins the 2024 Midland Senior Spring Championship at Kibworth Golf Club on 20th May 2024.
A sunny day saw 83 Midland Senior golfers take on the challenge of Kibworth golf course, which must be said was in excellent condition, although players needed to keep the ball on the fairways as the rough was playing tough.
The event has two age categories, 55 to 60 years old and 61 years and above, with the players playing for gross and nett prizes.
The overall winner and also the winner of the 55 to 60 category was Leicestershire Seniors County player Steve Sansome (Birstall GC) with an excellent 72 gross, followed closely by Brendon Moss (Woburn GC) on 73 and Dave Westwood (Little Aston GC) on 74.
The winner of the 61 and above category gross was Charles Banks (Stanton-on-the-Wolds GC) with an excellent 73, followed by Stephen Hedges (The Gog Magog GC) on 74 and Alan Turton (Ullesthorpe Court GC) on 78.
Nett winners were 55 to 60 category Paul Bracegirdle (Kibworth GC) 72, with the 61 and above category winner Liam Costello (Collingtree Park GC) with the best of the day 68.
The event also includes the first half of the Brain Morris Trophy, This is an event that is for golfers aged 65 and above and is coupled with the Midland Seniors Autumn (to be played at Trentham GC on the 17th September) with the best aggregate 36 holes gross being the winner. At halfway the leader is Charles Banks (Stanton-on-the-Wolds GC).
A big thank you to the players who entered and also thanks must be given to Kibworth GC who not only provided an excellent test of golf on a golf course that was in great condition, but provided excellent food and assistance to help the running of the competition which was very much appreciated.
