2021 MGU Seniors v UKSGA match

2021 Midland Seniors v UK Seniors Golf Association

Playing for the Peter Adams Trophy

The third annual match between MGU Seniors and the UK Seniors took place again at the wonderful Stanton on the Wold golf club on Tuesday 24th August 2021. It was a cloudy, slightly chilly day, as the  18 hole 4BBB match play competition got underway.

All of the players were announced on the first tee in order of play by Mr Steve Kellett, MGU Senior Chairman.

Steve Creed of Warwickshire and Jeremy Baldwin of Cambridgeshire and Phil Bramall and Nigel Evans of the UKSGA had the honour of hitting the first tee shots.

The Midlands, having won the previous two matches, were expecting strong opposition this year .

John Hemphrey had selected a very strong team filled with ex- international players.

The match was a close fought contest ending in an honourable half.

This was a very fitting result in memory of Peter Adams, who was a very active member of the UKSGA and a Midlands County Captain for Worcestershire.

Peter Adam’s wife Alison, and daughter Francesca were the guest of honours at the after match dinner.

Alison presented the Peter Adams trophy to Paul Newman, the Midlands retaining the honour as they had won the previous two matches.

Paul presented Alison with a bouquet of flowers. Alison responded by thanking everyone involved in the day and said that Peter would have been delighted with the result.

.

Without the support of Paul Keeling, the club manager of Stanton on the Wold, this event would not have been so successful. A big thanks goes to the staff at Stanton, especially Tracy Karas who looked after us all so well.

Also, a big thank you to the green staff who presented the course in excellent condition

Many thanks to our MGU President Mr David Price for attending. Also, thanks goes to the following for their support: Mr Mike Abbotts, past Chairman of the MGU Seniors, Mr Mark Reynolds, President of Warwickshire with his lovely wife Debbie.

Thank you to Worcestershire for providing the trophy, a very nice gesture.

Finally, a huge thank you to the players who gave up their time to play and of course had the honour of being selected to play for the MGU Senior’s team.

This was a very special day remembering Peter Adams, a friend to us all.

This annual event is becoming the elite match for Midland senior players.

Paul Newman

MGU Senior Captain
