It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of John Flanders, on Tuesday 1st September, aged 90.
John was President of the Midland Golf Union from 1980 to 1985,
He joined the Derbyshire Union of Golf Clubs Executive in 1965 and was appointed President in 2007 to 2008. He was also Derbyshire County Captain from 1967 to 1969 and again in 1978.
John was the first chairman of the then English Golf Union for a period of 11 years before becoming President of the English Golf Union in 2000. He was the driving force behind the acquisition and development of The National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa and one of two Honorary Members of England Golf. John was also the winner of the Gerald Micklem Award in 2002.
A recognised "fine golfer in his time", his legacy will long be remembered.
Our thoughts at this time are with his family and friends.
