Jack Cullington crowned 2020 Midland Open Amateur Champion

Jack Cullington was crowned 2020 Midland Open Amateur Champion at Sandwell Park Golf Club on 5th September after a tense final round. Jack joins some illustrious champions who have progressed into the professional ranks such as Andy Sullivan, Luke Donald, David Howell, John Bickerton along with Senior Tour Professionals Gary Wolstenholme and Paul Streeter as well as a number of Challenge Tour and Euro Pro Tour players.

An opening round of 72 left Jack in a tie for 7th place along side defending champion Joe Macilwraith. Matthew Dale and George Raitt sharing the lead with a 68.

Elliot Shaw and Jake Walley returned 68’s for round 2 just one ahead of Jack Cullington and Jenson Forrester and the latter headed the field to win the Midland Closed trophy with a half-way lead of one shot over George Raitt on 138 with Jack Cullington just 3 shots behind Jenson, the over-night leader, on 141.

Jack Cullington edged closer to the lead after an impressive 68 in round 3 just one shot behind Jenson Forrester and 2 shots ahead of George Raitt, with Jordan Boulton lurking a further 2 shots behind George.

With everything to play for in the final round there were a number of players still in contention. Max Faulkner returned a 68 to be the early club house leader. Jordan Boulton carded a 69 to put the pressure on the other main contenders. Jenson Forrester, who had been under par in each of the previous rounds finished with a 74 to tie with Jordon Boulton on 282 but the one over par 72 by Jack Cullington was just enough to secure the victory by a single shot and with great relief accepted the prestigious trophy along with the Midland Open Amateur Golf Medal.
