George Cordall (Worsop) crowned Midland Youths Open Amateur Champion for 2025 at Stoke Rochford heading the field from start to finish, making his opening pair of 65’s difficult to follow although Rory Bennet (Thorndon Park) pushed George hard in the end. 2024 Youths Champion Lewy Hayward (Marlborough) carded a 66 to open his account in round 1 with Rory Bennet just a shot back on 67. George Hanson (Crosland Heath) finished on 68 with four players all on level par 70. Ashley Millington (The Players Club), Lucus Dennison (Rochester & Cobham), Stanley Smith (Colchester), and Joshua Rudkin (Cosby). George Woodhead (Colchester) just one behind on 71 and Ronnie Groves (The South Staffordshire) and Huey Cunningham (Ilkley) on 72.
George Cordall repeated his round one score of 65 on day 2. Three players tried to stay in touch just six shots behind George. Ashley Millington carded a 66 to elevate himself into joint second with Rory Bennet (69) and Lewy Hayward (70). George Hanson slipped back slightly with a 71. Lucas Dennison repeated his first round 70 to keep within 10 of the leader. Others showing early promise failed to keep pace with the leading pack.
52 players made the halfway cut to head into a tough final 36 holes on the Friday. George Cordall continued his push for the title with a 69 in round 3 matched only by Ashley Millington needing to make up 6 shots in the final round to catch George. Rory Bennet was next best in round 3 with a 70, and George Hanson with 71.
In the final round Rory Bennet pushed hard to make up the ground on George Cordall and finished with the best of the final round of 69 but it wasn’t enough to overhaul the winner George Cordall who returned a 74, which was more than enough for a two-shot lead on 273. Ashley Millington finished third with a final round 74 for a 279 total. George Hanson (73) finished on 283 with a final round of 72 for Lucas Dennison to take 5th place. Past Champion, Lewy Hayward was disappointed with a final round 77 to finish on 286. Juniors Ronnie Groves and William Psenko finished 7th and 8th respectively on 287 and 288. Local junior Declan Goodfellow ended on 290 for 9th place. Four players shared 10th place on 292, Huey Cunningham, George Woodhead, Stanley Smith and Joshua Rudkin.
The U18 Champion, taking the Bob Howell Cup, was Ronnie Groves (The South Staffordshire) on 287 with William Psenko (Sherwood Forest) runner up on 288. Declan Goodfellow (Waltham Windmill) was two shots behind on 290 and Colchester pair of George Woodhead and Stanley Smith taking 4th and 5th on 292. Zach Banks (Shifnal) on 294 for 6th and Monty Fincher (Stratford-on-Avon) on 296 took 7th place. Harrison Panter (Northamptonshire County), Ambrose Eaves (Broadway) and Luca Abraham (Horsley Lodge) finished 8th, 9th and 10th overall.

The top forty non qualifiers in the Midland Youths played for the Andrew Hare Salver on Friday 4th July behind the Round 3 of the Midland Youths. Olver George (Thorpe Hall) with a round of 73 taking the title on countback over Jack Halliwell (Cilgwyn) with Charlie Ashbee (Yelverton) 3rd on 74. Fourth place was taken by George Emmerson (Woodhall Spa) on 75 equally by William Simpkin (Longcliffe), Joe Powell (Seaford) and Gabriel Westrope (Coventry).
