Westwood & Smith take the Midland Senior Pairs Title.

David Westwood (Little Aston) and Karl Smith (Handsworth) won the 2025 Midland Senior Pairs Championship at Handsworth Golf Club by the narrowest of margins.

David Westwood (Little Aston) and Karl Smith (Handsworth) won the 2025 Midland Senior Pairs Championship at Handsworth Golf Club on 10th June by the narrowest of margins with a count back victory over Steve Sansome (Rothley Park) and Graham Marshall (Kirby Muxloe) who both finished on 67. However, both pairs had a back nine of 33 but Westwood & Smith finished with 4 birdies in the last six holes for a back six of 19 compared to a back six of 21 for Sansome & Marshall, despite an eagle on the last. Third place was the Worcestershire pairing of Duncan MacPherson (Worcester Golf & Country Club) and Lee Richardson (The Worcestershire) with 68. Charles Banks (Stanton-on-the-Wolds) and Tim Clarke (Hollinwell) took 4th place with 69. Early clubhouse leaders Roger Neale (Hallmark The Welcome) & Simon Timmins (Copt Heath) were eventually deposed of their early lead to finish 5th on 70, equaled by Enville pairing of Mike Deeley & Rob Stevens. Four more pairs finished on 71 headed by Jon Harris & Jonathon Haynes for 7th place. 8th were Belton Park pair of Adrian Allen & John Duke, followed by Burghley Park pair of Thomas Breheny & Jim Scutt with 10th place going to Oswestry’s Scott Harris & Mike Jones.

Best net of the day was the Burghley Pair of Thomas Breheny & Jim Scutt with a 63, just one ahead of gross champions Westwood & Smith on 64, just edging out Sansome & Marshall again on countback.
