Cambridgeshire U18 Boys win the EG Boys County Championships (Midland Qualifying) with the narrowest of victories with 732 (+22). Worcestershire pushed hard and finished just one shot back on 733 (+23), with Staffordshire third on 735. Warwickshire finished 4th on 736 and Shropshire & Herefordshire on 737. Only 5 shots separating the top 5 for what was the closest finish for a number of years.

After the first round Worcestershire lead the field by 3 shots on 361 with Warwickshire on 364, Lincolnshire held 3rd place on 366 and Nottinghamshire on 366. 5th were Staffordshire and eventual winners Cambridgeshire sitting in 6th place on 373. Shropshire & Herefordshire were 7th on 371. The remaining three of Leicestershire & Rutland, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire held 8th, 9th and 10th respectively, which is where they each finished after the second round.

Cambridgeshire had the better of the afternoon rounds moving from 6th to eventual winners. Worcestershire slipped to runners-up after holding the early lead. Warwickshire and Lincolnshire both lost ground from their 2nd & 3rd place positions in the morning. Staffordshire improved from 5th to 3rd place and Shropshire & Herefordshire also improving by 2 places to their 5th place finish.

Cambridgeshire once again will represent the Midland Region at the County Finals to be held at Elsham Golf Club in August.

Best individual score of the day for the Arnold Quaish was Lewis Foxall (Staffordshire) with 140 (-2), with Joshua Gardner (Warwickshire), Theo Nelson (Nottinghamshire) and Fynn Colley (Leicestershire & Rutland) all on 141 (-1).

The round 1 scores were submitted as a qualifier for the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championships with Hayden Sarfo (Worcestershire) recording a 67 (-4).
