Shropshire & Herefordshire Seniors win Midland Senior Play Off Final at Collingtree Park
Collingtree Park GC welcomed the 2024 Midland Seniors League Play-off Final between Nottinghamshire and Shropshire & Herefordshire.
This is the annual match between the winners of the Midland Seniors League West against the winners of the Midland Seniors League East.
The format of the day is 9-hole foursomes matchplay in the morning, followed by 18-hole fourball matchplay in the afternoon.
The morning matches finished with Shropshire & Herefordshire taking a slender lead of 3.5 points to 2.5 points, with the highlight being the win by Damian Magill & Alan McCafferty (S&H) beating Chris Powell & Andy Cook (Notts) by 4&3.
All to play for in the afternoon, thankfully the threat of thunder didn't materialise.
The pairings for the afternoon were exactly the same as the morning. The top match went the way of Charles Banks & Tim Clarke (Notts) 2&1, which was quickly cancelled out with Damian Magill & Alan McCafferty (S&H) getting their second win of the day 3&2. Further wins from S&H pairings Keith Forster & Nigel Chesters 3&2 and S&H Captain Damian Scholes & Nick Roberts 1 up meant S&H won the Final by an overall score of 10.5 points to 7.5 points.
A jubilant S&H team celebrated their win after coming so close twelve months ago against Lincolnshire.
The final was played in great spirit, with both Captains thanking each other for the spirit the final was played in.
