Midland U16 Boys and Girls Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship Cancelled
It is with regret that it has been necessary to cancel the Midland U16 Boys and Girls Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship due to be held at Hawkstone Park on 3rd & 4th April, on receipt of an email from the Director of Golf at Hawkstone Park at 11:28am on 29th March 2024.
The email stated that due to the amount of unprecedented rainfall Hawkstone Park Ltd have regrettably informed the Midland Golf Union that the current state of course conditions will not be up to a competition standard.
It was agreed that the Midland Golf Union would explore alternative dates to reschedule the competition. However, whilst some dates were identified which avoided clashes with other National, Regional and County Competitions, these were not available to us as Hawkstone Park had other bookings which meant the courses were unavailable. Two other dates were considered but both would have clashed with GCSE examinations and critical revision time. In the interests of our player's education, we did not pursue those options
On the basis of the above, we have had to cancel this competition for 2024.
This is a huge disappointment for all concerned but the recent unprecedented amount of rain has taken its toll on not just this competition, but many other sporting events.
Once again we appreciate the understanding of all concerned in this matter.
