Brandon Skidmore secures a wire-to-wire victory in the Midland Open Amateur Championship.

Brandon Skidmore (Cotswold Hills) opened with a 67 to lead the Midland Open Amateur Championship and followed this with a course equalling record of 64, 69 and 70 to take the title 6 shots clear of Alexander Ford (Robin Hood) who finished on 276 (-4).

Heading the field after the first round Brandon Skidmore was under pressure from Jack Drury (Stratford-on-Avon) and Charlie Salter (Northamptonshire County) both 1 shot behind on 68. Six more players returned level par rounds to keep the leader in sight. Sam Johnson (High Post), George Castle (Northamptonshire County), Carter Newton (Coxmoor), Nick Seabourne (Vale G&CC), Jack Williams (Wrexham) and Alex Emms (Vales G&CC) were all still in touch at the end of day 1.

At the end of Round 2 Brandon Skidmore had extended his lead with a faultless bogie free round of 64. George Castle tried to stay in touch with the leader with a 67 but was by now 6 shots behind the leader. Mark Hewlett (Gaudet Luce) Jordan Darnell (Kettering), Jensen Parfitt (Collingtree Park) and Matthew Ruffinato (The Kidderminster) returned 68’s.

41 players headed into round 3 hoping to close the gap with the leader, Alexander Ford and Charlie Salter shared the best score in round 3 with a 67. 5 players finished with a 68, Philipp Krone (Mosely), Adam Tridgell (Hanbury Manor), Jack Drury, Cameron Steadman (Hollinwell) and past Midland Open Champion, Jack Cullington (Dereham) al finished 1 ahead of the Brandon Skidmore but his lead remained at 7 ahead of Charlie Salter and 8 in front of Jack Drury. A level par final round by Brandon was more than enough to hold off the challenge from Alexander Ford with a final round 67 leaving him 6 a drift of the leader with another 67 by George Castle, finishing third on 277. Jack Drury finished a further shot back in fourth on 278, with Charlie Salter fifth on 279. Adam Tridgell and 2023 Midland Mid-Amateur Open Champion, Ross Overton (Sherwood Forest) both finished on level par280. 2020 Midland Open Amateur Champion, Jack Cullington secured 8th place on 281, Charlie Robb (Buckingham) on 282 finished nineth with Jack Williams completing the top ten on 283.
