James Stenhouse wins Midland Closed at Shrewsbury Golf Club.

James Stenhouse (Kings Norton) wins the Midland Closed Amateur Championship at Shrewsbury on 12th August with a pair of 71’s to edge out 4 players all finishing on 144. With intermittent rain through the day and a strong breeze, players were finding the fast greens a testing challenge. Cameron Bridger (Marston Lakes), George Castle (Northamptonshire County), Alex Emms (Vale Golf & Country Club) and Adrian Marshall (The Herefordshire) all came close to the eventual champion, but couldn’t match James in the end. Torin Little (Whittlebury Park) carded a 67 in the final round to finish 6th on 145, with Midland Order of Merit leader Dani Hoof (Market Drayton) also on 145. Local player Thomas Kerr had opened with a 69 to take the halfway lead but failed to maintain that position with a disappointing second round 78.

The team championship was won by Charlie Salter and George Castle (Northamptonshire County). Home pairing of Thomas Kerr and Brad Dunning were second just 1 shot back. James Stenhouse and Daniel Mortimer (Kings Norton) were 3rd a further 2 shots adrift.
