Seaton takes senior title

Tim Seaton (Grimsby Golf Club) secured the 2014 Midland Senior Amateur Championship at Lincoln golf club with a two shot advantage over William (Bill) Thompson (Kings Norton) and a further shot clear of Richard Cole (Peterborough Milton).

 

Tim completed the front nine on level par which included a birdie on 4th but was spoilt by a bogey on the ninth. Tim then struggled on the next two holes dropping a shot on each but returning a par on all the remaining holes and a birdie on the par 5 fifteenth to finish with a one over par total of 72.

 

Bill Thompson meanwhile was struggling on the front 9 dropping shots on the 2nd, 8th and 9th with another on the 10th but steadied to record pars for the remainder and a birdie on the 15th to finish at 3 over on 74.

 

Tim said he was pleased to win the title again to repeat his win in 2012 and praised the club and green keepers for preparing the course to a high standard.

 

Team winners were David Clibborn and Ian Wilson representing Beau Desert Golf Club with scores of 76 and 82 for a 158 total with second place going to Frank Wallington and Edward Mason of Handsworth Golf Club with scores of 80 and 81 for a 161 total, relegated to 3rd place were Colin Maber and Michael Grindle who returned scores of 79 and 82 for a 161 finish also but were edged into 3rd place on count back.
