Warwickshire Triumph

Warwickshire produced a consistent performance throughout the whole team in the 2014 EG Men’s County Championships - Midlands Qualifying event at Moseley Golf Club on 21st June 2014.

A combined level par round in the morning set up an impressive lead which the chasing pack failed to close up and although the team struggled a little more in the afternoon their blistering start had given them the safety cushion required to finally finish 11 shots clear of eventual runners-up Staffordshire.

Matt Cryer and Will Smith started well, both carding a 69, Tom Ibbertson and Patrick Ruff carded a level par 70 with Adam Lumley and Louie Pett at 1 over par. But a 69 for Louie Pett and a 72 for Adam Lumley in the afternoon along with a 73 for Patrick Ruff and 74’s for Will Smith and Matt Cryer ensured Warwickshire kept ahead of the pack. A disappointing 76 for Tom Ibbertson was only a slight hiccup which couldn’t detract from a solid team performance. Team Captain Steven Creed was immensely proud and pleased with his team and they look forward to representing the Midlands in the finals at Royal North Devon on 26th to 28th September.

Warwickshire finished on 858 (+18), Staffordshire were runners-up on 869 (+29) with 2013 winners Leicestershire & Rutland on 874 (+34). Fourth place went to Shropshire & Herefordshire also on 874 (+34) which included a stunning 66 and 64 (-10) for Ashley Chesters.
