2024 MIDLAND U16 GIRLS OPEN AMATEUR STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP (Hawkstone) Rules

CONDITIONS
1. The Championship shall be played over three rounds of 18 holes, 54 holes in total.
2. 117 players shall be eligible to compete. In the event of applications exceeding this number, entry for the higher handicap players shall be decided by ballot. Unsuccessful entries will be added to a list of reserves. There are a maximum 117 places available. The number of girls and boys competing will be based on the percentage of the total entries and an equivalent percentage applied to the 117 places available.
3. The winner of the Boys & Girls Championships shall be the players returning the best gross score and will hold the relevant Covey Trophy for that year. The Brian Purse Memorial Trophy will be presented to the boy who records the lowest gross score over 54 holes and who is a member of a golf club affiliated to the Midland Golf Union.
4. A tie for Covey Trophies 1st places will be decided by a play-off at the Committee’s discretion.
5. Entrants must be under 16 years of age on the 1st of January 2024 and hold a WHS handicap index that does not exceed 7.4 (Boys) or 11.4 (Girls). All players must be member of a golf club affiliated to a recognised English County Golf Union
6. All players (boys off white tees, girls off red tees) will play 36 holes (18 holes on the Championship course and 18 holes on the Hawkstone course) on the 3rd April, there will be a cut after 36 holes (approx. 50% of the entries). Those above the cut line will play a further 18 holes on the Championship course for the overall championships on the 4th April. Those players below the cut line will compete for two new separate nett stableford events (one for boys and one for girls) over 18 holes on the Hawkstone Course (boys off white tees, girls off red tees). The winners will be the players with the best nett stableford score.
7. Caddies. Rule 10.3 is modified so that caddies are not allowed other than caddies under 16 years of age on 1st January 2024. Penalty for breach of rule MLR H-1.2
8. A Practice Round will be available on Tuesday 2nd April 2024, and this should be booked through the Midland Golf Union. An additional practice round may be available on Monday 1st April 2024, and this should also be booked through the Midland Golf Union.
9. Entry can be made ‘online’ by credit card or by post on the entry form obtainable from your Club Secretary, County Union Delegate, the Midland Golf Union website, www.midlandgolfunion.co.uk or from the Administrator.
10. Entries by post must include the completed entry form and entry fee, £70.00. Cheques and money orders are to be made payable to the ‘Midland Golf Union Ltd’. Entries will not be accepted by telephone, nor unless the entry form is fully completed.
11. The ‘starting sheet’ will be posted on the MGU website, www.midlandgolfunion.co.uk and emailed to entrants. If you require a hard copy please include a SAE with your postal entry.
12. Entrance fees will not be refunded unless intimation of withdrawing is received before the closing date for entries, except for those entrants who may be balloted out and who do not subsequently compete.
13. Entrants must conform in all respects to the Rules of Amateur Status. Boys or Girls working for Golf Professionals must not have received fees for playing or coaching.
14. Parents (or Guardians) of all the players are expected to ensure that their child protects themselves in all Health and Safety matters, with particular emphasis on the danger from lightning when play must stop immediately and not be resumed until the danger has passed. Players must also stop play immediately when a long blast of a klaxon is sounded, and not resume until two short blasts, repeated, are heard.
15. Any question arising as to qualification, Rules of Golf, or any other point will be considered by the Officers of the Midland
Golf Union whose decision will be final.

17. Closing date for online/postal entries will be Midnight on Monday 11th March 2024.
