Imogen Rafferty (Marriott Breadsall Priory) wins the 2023 Midland U21 Girls Closed Amateur Championship.

Imogen Rafferty (Marriott Breadsall Priory) wins the 2023 Midland U21 Girls Closed Amateur Championship.

A final round 71 helped Imogen to overcome Jorja Newbold (Oakmere Park Admirals) who was looking to improve her previous finishes in the competition and heading into the final round with a one-shot advantage over Imogen. However, with two previous champions competing in the last two groups the pressure was on, and Imogen managed to hold off all the challengers for a 4-stroke victory to ensure a new name on the trophy.

2021 Champion Lulu Leetham (Buckingham) and 2022 Champion (Ella Mason (Ely City) were tied 3rd on 224. Jorja Newbold finished runner up on 223 which was 4 shots short of Imogen Rafferty final total of 219.

Lila Bisset (Northamptonshire County) returned the lowest first round total of 72 to be entered onto the season gross leader board for the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championships and must wait until the end of the season to see if she will be invited to play in the finals at Quinto Do Lago in November. Lila was also awarded lowest net score for round 1 which means she will also appear on the season nett leader board.

Nett winner for the competition was Summer Smith (Burton-on-Trent) on 221

The David Price trophy was presented to the U21 Girls Champion, Imogen Rafferty, by John Rawson (MGU President) who paid tribute to David who sadly passed away earlier in the year. David was keen to introduce the U21 Girls competition as part of the Midland Youths week and although only in its third year, the Directors and staff of the Midland Golf Union hope the popularity of the event will grow in the years ahead. John Rawson also thanked Ping for their sponsorship and support.
