Early leaders Bill Thompson and Steve Green hold on to take Midland Senior Pairs Title.

Bill Thompson (Kings Norton) and Steve Green (Rose Hill) were crowned Midland Senior Pairs Champions at Kidderminster Golf Club on 15th June 2023 with a gross 69 edging out three pairs on 70. Roger Neale (Hallmark The Welcome) and Simon Timmins (Copt Heath) took second place, with David Westwood (Little Aston) and Karl Smith (Handsworth) in third, with Nick Peplow (Blackwell) and Brett Emerson (The Kidderminster) finishing fourth. Closely behind on 71 were Charles Banks (Stanton-on-the-Wolds) and Tim Clarke (Hollinwell) taking fifth place on countback over John Langley (Cosby) and David Middleton (Lutterworth) awarded sixth.

Best nett score of the day was Nick Peplow and Brett Emerson who led from the start with 63 closely followed by John Langley and David Middleton on 64. Midland Senior Pairs Champions Bill Thompson and Steve Green took third slot with a 67, edging out Darron Henn (Gaudet Luce) and Alun McGrath (Stourbridge) on countback. The Lutterworth pairing of John Mann and John Poole took fifth slot on 68 equaled by Roger Neale and Simon Timmins.

During the prize presentation Bill Thompson revealed a chip in on the last by playing partner Steve Green for a birdie 3 had been the shot of the day to secure the win. Celebration of the day however was the “Hole-in-One” by Alun McGrath on the 5th Hole. He was presented with a dozen MGU logo Titleist Balls by the Midland Golf Union President for his unique achievement.

President John Rawson presented the Captain of The Kidderminster Golf Club, George Baylis, with a presentation shield commemorate the club hosting the Midland Senior Pairs Championship.
