Northamptonshire County Juniors secured a second successive county championship

Northamptonshire County Juniors secured a second successive county championship with the same squad as 2015 and will go forward to represent the Midland Region in the Boys County Finals at Cumberwell Park in August. They were full of confidence from the off having the benefit of fielding the same six players who had gained valuable experience in  the County Finals at Kings Lynn less than 12 months ago.

With an impressive 36 hole total of 745 Northamptonshire Boys finished 20 shots clear of runners up Staffordshire Boys finishing with 759, with hosts Worcestershire only 2 strokes behind on 761.

It was double celebration for the Northamptonshire with Charlie Salter finishing with the best 36 hole total of 143 after rounds of 71 and 72 to gain a place in the U18 Boys Amateur Stroke play Championship (The Carris Trophy) at Hunstanton on 19th to 22nd July. The 71 morning round being the lowest recorded although this was matched by Oliver Rust from Cambridgeshire who unfortunately lost out on count back. Best round of the afternoon went to Ryan James of Warwickshire also with a 71.

Matthew Osborn (The Abbey Golf & Country Club, Worcestershire) finished second overall over 36 holes with two level par rounds just one shot behind Charlie Salter, with Ryan James in third a further shot back.

The story of the day went to the Shropshire & Herefordshire Boys who had to endure being trapped in the hotel lift for over 2 hours the night before. Not ideal preparation for a major event. They suffered a further set back when Harry Burt had to withdraw during the morning round through illness.

The 2017 EG Boys County Championships will take place at St. Ives Golf Club (Cambridgeshire) on Wednesday 31st May 2017.
