Lincolnshire under 14 boys triumph

Lincolnshire under 14 boys triumphed in the Midland under 14 county championships at Broughton Heath.

Lincolnshire finished the two rounds over the 18 hole par three course at Broughton Heath XX shots clear of Nottinghamshire on 598. The Lincolnshire team comprising of Jake Craddock, Reece Goodyear, William Hopkins, Hugo Kedzlie, Sanjay Nithiyalingam and Josh Payne held off the challenge of Nottinghamshire. Having established a lead after the first round Lincolnshire maintained their position during the afternoon round. Their lower combined handicaps proved to be the key to securing the victory. With all six players returning respectable scores in the morning Jake Craddock (59), Reece Goodyear (60), William Hopkins (58), Hugo Kedzlie (61), Sanjay Nithiyalingam (62) and Josh Payne (59). It was much of the same in the afternoon with Jake Craddock (62), Reece Goodyear (62), William Hopkins (58), Hugo Kedzlie (58), Sanjay Nithiyalingam (61) and Josh Payne (67).

Nottinghamshire put up a fight and were 18 shots behind Lincolnshire in the morning with Harry Brewin (69), Matthew Freeman (64), Sam Greasley (61), Ben Hanbury (67), Oliver Handley (63) and Eddie Turner-Bennett (60). The team rallied a little in the afternoon, but the task of overhauling Lincolnshire was too much and despite improving scores of each player of Harry Brewin (60), Matthew Freeman (61), Sam Greasley (59), Ben Hanbury (65), Oliver Handley (60) and Eddie Turner-Bennett (57) they finished a creditable second on 612.

Third place overall went to Shropshire & Herefordshire with a total of 633 and fourth place was Warwickshire on 633 also but missing out on count back

Lincolnshire’s under 14 manager Stephen Bennett was proud of his team’s performance and the hard work the manager and players have put in over the summer finally paid off.
